Selina Boateng Sheds Light on the Hidden Struggles of Christian Marriages

Ghanaian gospel singer - Selina Boateng

Ghanaian Gospel singer Selina Boateng is calling for honesty and compassion within Christian circles when it comes to the realities of marriage, especially for those in ministry.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Efie Ne Fie with Ohemaa Acheampomaa, she offered an unfiltered glimpse into the emotional strain many endure in silence.

The award-winning singer explained that social pressure and religious judgment often force Christian couples to stay in marriages that are no longer emotionally healthy. According to her, if people felt free to leave without fear of condemnation, the number of broken marriages would become impossible to ignore.

“If people had the liberty to openly walk away from their marriages, divorce cases would shoot up like gunfire. It would be an eyesore because the numbers would be overwhelming,” she remarked.

Selina revealed that this silence is most deafening for women in ministry, who are often left to carry the emotional weight alone. The same community that urged them into marriage, she said, tends to vanish when things fall apart.

“And the sad part? Once you’re married, you can’t even speak about what you’re going through. Even the people who pressured you into it won’t be there to console you.”

She appealed to the faith community to confront these realities with empathy, especially considering how broken marriages can cripple one’s calling, faith, and mental stability.

“I want to use this opportunity to plead with everyone: if you’re a Christian and your marriage falls apart, it affects everything. Your ministry, your peace, your purpose. Especially if you’re a gospel musician. That’s why we need to wake up. We are at fault. And I’m not just speaking for myself, I know many mothers who are suffering in silence. Even when they speak out, they are not believed. They’re blamed instead.”

She concluded with a somber truth: many people in leadership and music ministry are quietly struggling in mismatched relationships, afraid to speak, afraid to leave, and afraid to disappoint the church.

“So much is happening behind closed doors. If we allowed people to speak freely, you’d be shocked at how many men of God and gospel musicians would admit they married the wrong person,” Selina Boateng stated.
