After hours in EOCO custody, Ghanaian dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has regained his freedom under revised bail conditions. The adjustment marks a turning point in a high-profile case that has drawn both local and international attention.
His PR manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah (Sammy Flex), told JoyNews that the bail initially set at GH¢10 million was reduced to GH¢5 million, with two sureties required. Shatta Wale has also been directed to report to EOCO three times a week as investigations progress.
The musician’s legal troubles began when investigators questioned him over the purchase of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus. Authorities suspect the luxury car is tied to a US$4 million fraud scheme orchestrated by Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving a sentence in the United States. EOCO, working with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice, confiscated the vehicle as part of the ongoing probe.
EOCO stated that Shatta Wale was questioned for nearly four hours, but could not identify who sold him the car. He reportedly claimed he bought it from “the street.” The agency added that he failed to provide ownership documents apart from a customs declaration form carrying Amuah’s name.
Shatta Wale’s detention and release have fueled widespread debate and public fascination. Outside EOCO’s offices, loyal fans of the “Shatta Movement” assembled in their numbers, chanting and showing support while awaiting updates on their idol’s fate.
