Residents Who Recovered Helicopter Crash Victims Receive GH¢100,000 Support From Mahama

President Mahama has commended 13 Sikaman-Brofoyedu residents for recovering victims of the August 6 helicopter crash, offering cash, jobs, and infrastructure support.

President John Dramani Mahama has honoured the bravery of residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu, whose swift response helped recover the bodies of eight officials who perished in the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash.

On behalf of the President, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah visited the community on Wednesday, August 27, to extend official gratitude and deliver a package of support to the 13 residents who took part in the recovery mission.

The fatal crash in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, located in the Adansi Akrofrom District, claimed the lives of eight senior government figures. Among them were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The group had been on official duty at the time of the accident.

During the visit, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah conveyed the President’s message directly to the residents, stating: “The President has asked me to represent him and thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did.”

As part of the government’s recognition, President Mahama provided GH¢100,000 to the rescuers and an additional GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to support customary rites. The President also announced that all 13 individuals involved would be offered employment opportunities aligned with their skills.

Looking beyond immediate assistance, President Mahama pledged to address the community’s broader needs, including rehabilitation of local roads and other infrastructure improvements.
