Cina Soul’s earliest memories of music trace back to the church choir, but despite that foundation, she has chosen not to lift her voice during church services anymore.
Her decision, she clarified, has nothing to do with a lack of invitations, those arrive often, but instead stems from what she calls a deeply personal spiritual conviction.
During an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the singer revealed that almost every church she attends encourages her to perform, yet she continues to turn them down.
“I don’t sing in church and it’s not because I have not been asked to sing. Every church I go or every church family I make, they want me to sing in church but I’d rather not for spiritual reasons. Yeah, personal spiritual reasons.
“Even when I was younger, I was in the choir and all that. Yes, but it’s not about it not going well. No, it’s just a personal spiritual reason,” she explained.
Cina Soul emphasized that her choice is not rooted in bad experiences with church music but rather in her own private spiritual path.
When asked about her identity as a musician, she declined to be boxed into either the gospel or secular category. To her, music is a channel through which she shares whatever message God places on her heart, whether about love, faith, or the challenges of everyday life.
“Whatever message that comes to me…because my album, I speak about God in it. I speak about love, I speak about life, about struggle. So, me personally, I just listen to what God gives me. I have songs that are gospel that I know I have not put them out. I can write everything that comes to me,” Cina Soul divulged.
Though she admits to having unreleased gospel tracks, she says they remain on hold, awaiting the right time to be shared with the world.
