Mr Eazi Reveals Why He Quit Ghana Gold Trade Over Jail Fears

Mr Eazi

Mr Eazi has revealed that he exited a gold trading business in Ghana after realising it was illegal and could lead to his arrest.

In a recent discussion with Glitch Africa, the Nigerian singer and businessman opened up about that chapter, explaining that while the trade itself was not tied to fraud or drugs, it still breached local regulations.

“Aside from doing all my businesses, it turns out that the business I was doing was for foreigners. It was illegal and I didn’t want to go to jail,” he said.

He went on to clarify that his involvement was within Ghana’s small-scale mining space, a sector reserved by law for local participants.

“I wasn’t selling drugs or doing Yahoo. I was selling gold, but it’s for the small-scale mining lands. The small scale is for locals; it’s like to support locals,” he stated.

That realisation, he explained, forced a quick reassessment of his direction.

“I’m like, if I continue doing this thing and I get arrested, I’m going to go to jail. That’s not fun,” he shared.

His next move was to head back to Nigeria, hoping to raise funds from relatives and return to Ghana on a more compliant footing.

“I decided to move to Nigeria and look for which of my uncles was going to give me money so that I could go back to Ghana and continue the mining,” he disclosed.

But that plan never materialised. Instead, the detour became the turning point that pushed him fully into entertainment.

“Then I ended up a musician,” Mr Eazi further stated.
