“God Doesn’t Live in Church Buildings, He Lives in You” – Efia Odo Affirms

Ghanaian socialite, Andrea Owusu, well-known as Efia Odo, has stepped into a heated online conversation about the place of faith and youth-centered church culture in the country, urging a shift away from what she views as surface-level Christianity.

In several reflective posts, she voiced concern over the growing emphasis on church structures and meticulously planned Sunday services at the expense of a deeper spiritual walk with God.

Drawing on passages like John 4:21–24 and Acts 17:24, Efia Odo stressed the idea that authentic worship transcends physical spaces.

“God does not live in church buildings (Acts 17:24); He lives in everything you do. That’s why we call Him omnipresent. It’s not about the physical temple you enter on Sundays, but the temple within your mind and your heart,” she noted.

Her remarks enter a broader conversation unfolding on X (formerly Twitter), where many young Ghanaians are critically revisiting their experiences with youth-led ministries, some recounting emotional and spiritual harm.

Efia Odo suggested that worship has been reduced to a weekly ritual instead of an ongoing, life-encompassing commitment.

“God lives in everything you do … That’s why we call Him omnipresent,” she reminded her followers, urging them to reconnect with faith beyond the walls of the church.

Efia Odo challenges traditional church culture, urging Ghanaians to embrace worship beyond buildings and recognize God’s presence in daily life.
