Wendy Shay has credited her young protégé, Tracy Shay, with helping turn her hit single “Too Late” into an award-winning success at the All-Africa Music Awards held in Lagos, Nigeria.

While receiving the honour, the singer paused her acceptance speech to single out the people she said worked behind the scenes to push the song. She expressed appreciation to her management team, fans, brand partners and Tracy Shay, whose dance videos helped give the track a second life online.

“I want to say thank you to my baby, Tracy Shay, for dancing to ‘Too Late.’ It went viral because of her,” she said.

Tracy Shay first caught Wendy Shay’s attention after posting a dance clip to “Too Late” that quickly spread across social media and drew widespread attention. Impressed by the young dancer’s impact, the singer reached out and later took her under her wing.

Since then, Wendy Shay has publicly committed to mentoring Tracy Shay and supporting her education through to the tertiary level, describing the move as part of her effort to nurture young talent beyond music.
