Wendy Shay has clinched another major continental honour, reinforcing her growing influence beyond Ghana’s borders after winning Best Female Artiste in Western Africa at the 2026 All-Africa Music Awards with her hit song “Too Late”.

The prestigious ceremony was held in Lagos, Nigeria, rounding off a five-day programme that blended music business forums with performances, culminating in the awards night.

The Western Africa female category was fiercely contested, with top names including Tiwa Savage, Moliy, Ayra Starr and Amaarae all in the running. In the end, Wendy Shay’s name was announced, drawing loud applause and marking one of the standout moments of the night.

Her victory sparked excitement among fans and industry watchers, especially as she stepped forward to receive the award on one of Africa’s biggest music stages.

In her acceptance speech, Wendy Shay took time to acknowledge her faith, supporters and collaborators, while also highlighting the unexpected role a young dancer played in pushing the song to viral success.

“I want to say thank you to my Lord and Saviour. I want to say thank you to my fans, the Shay Gang. I want to say thank you to my partners. And I want to say thank you to my baby, Tracy Shay, for dancing to ‘Too Late’. It went viral because of her,” she said, crediting Tracy Shay for helping amplify the track’s reach.
