Ghanaian actor and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has earned international recognition after his latest film, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, secured a nomination at the New Zealand International Film Festival.
Sharing the news on Instagram on August 18, 2025, Lilwin revealed that his movie had been shortlisted for Best African Movie, rising above hundreds of competitors.
“LilWin’s movie Captain Ibrahim Traoré, directed by Jackson K Bentum, has been nominated for Best African Movie at the New Zealand International Film Festival,” his post stated.
The Kumawood star emphasized that the competition was fierce, with more than 500 films vying for the category, but only ten making the final cut.
“The movie came out as an outstanding piece of work in over 500 movies, and only 10 movies were nominated,” he added.
The recognition comes just weeks after Lilwin premiered the highly publicized project on August 2, 2025. The film chronicles how Captain Ibrahim Traoré rose to power in Burkina Faso following the coup of September 30, 2022, and portrays him as a symbol of youth-led reform and anti-imperialist resistance.
Beyond the festival spotlight, Lilwin has also received personal acknowledgment from Captain Traoré himself, who honoured the actor for spotlighting his story on the big screen.
