Nana Agradaa Ordered to Pay GH¢100,000 to Empress Gifty in Defamation Ruling

Nana Agradaa and Empress Gifty

A defamation dispute that played out both in court and online has been settled at the Tema High Court, where gospel musician Empress Gifty Adorye was awarded GH¢100,000 in damages against evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly called Nana Agradaa.

The ruling, reported by GHOne News on January 20, 2026, brings to a close a case that began in May 2025. Empress Gifty went to court after a string of live social media broadcasts in which Agradaa was accused of making slanderous and libelous statements about her. The musician initially demanded GH¢20 million in damages.

The lawsuit was filed at the Tema High Court by Osei Aidoh Akpokavie & Co. In addition to monetary compensation, Empress Gifty sought a perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory remarks and requested that all offending content be taken down from Agradaa’s social media platforms.

The case shifted direction in December 2025 when Agradaa, acting through her lawyers at Agyaa Asamani Law Consult, formally withdrew every allegation made against the singer. She admitted the claims were false and told the court they were made “in the spur of the moment.”

Alongside the retraction, Agradaa offered an unqualified apology to Empress Gifty, acknowledging the damage caused to her public image, music career, and private life. She also extended her apology to the musician’s family, friends, and associates.
