Yaw Sarpong Passed Away Unaware of Maame Tiwaa’s Death, Son Reveals

Maame Tiwaa of Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo fame

Kwame Sarpong, son of the late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, has revealed that his father passed away without ever knowing that his longtime friend Maame Tiwaa had died.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on January 22, 2026, Kwame explained that the family intentionally withheld the news to protect Yaw Sarpong’s health and emotional well-being.

“No one informed him about Maame Tiwaa’s death. Everything was going on social media, but because he wasn’t active, he didn’t know about it,” he said.

Kwame noted that the close relationship between his father and Maame Tiwaa, which stretched over several decades, made the decision especially difficult.

“The reason why we didn’t inform him was that my father and Maame Tiwaa knew each other from their young age till they grew old. The kind of relationship and bond they both had was very strong,” he explained.

The family feared that learning about Maame Tiwaa’s death could have negatively affected Yaw Sarpong’s recovery.

“We knew the news would break him, and since we wanted him to recover faster, we had to hide the news from him,” Kwame Sarpong further stated.
