They Were Born to Sing – Kwaw Kese on Kofi Kinaata and King Paluta

Kwaw Kese believes not every rapper was destined to hold a mic for bars.

The Ghanaian rapper says the recent wave of artistes shifting from rap to singing is less of a reinvention and more of a correction. In his view, some of them were simply exploring the wrong lane before finding their footing.

During a discussion on Hitz FM, he argued that a number of musicians only uncovered their real strength after trying their hand at rap.

“They are not original. If they turn into singers, it allows the rappers to cash out. To me, I don’t think Kofi Kinaata and King Paluta were born to rap; they were born to sing. The rap was forced on them because of peer pressure and the people around them,” he said.

Kwaw Kese stressed that once these artistes recognized where their true talent lay, they committed to it fully and saw their careers flourish.

“When they realized their true talent is singing, they never went back to rapping and they’re great. Now, if Kofi is rapping, people will not enjoy like they enjoy him singing. That’s his true call and it takes time for you to realize your true call,” he explained.

He added that King Paluta’s recent run of success reflects what can happen when an artiste leans into their natural gift rather than trying to fit into a trend.
