Brother Sammy Reveals Wife Ended 12-Year Marriage Despite His Refusal to Accept Divorce

Brother Sammy (Broda Sammy)

Ghanaian gospel singer Brother Sammy says his 12-year marriage has come to an end after his wife and her family returned the bride price, a move that traditionally signals the dissolution of a union.

The musician disclosed the development during an appearance on the ‘Work and Happiness’ programme on Adom FM, explaining that while the customary step has been taken by his wife’s family, he personally does not see the marriage as finished.

According to him, the news reached him unexpectedly while he was away performing. His family contacted him in December to inform him that his wife’s relatives had come forward to return the bride price.

Brother Sammy also spoke about the unusual nature of their relationship over the years, noting that his wife’s frequent travels meant they often spent long periods apart. At certain times, he said, they went as long as three or four years without seeing each other.

He added that when his relatives sought clarification from his wife’s family about possible problems in the marriage, they were told he had not committed any wrongdoing.

“I’ve been married for 12 years. I wasn’t popular when I got married. My wife divorced me, but in my heart I haven’t divorced her. I was performing at a show in December when my family called to say that my wife’s family had returned her bride price. She travels a lot, and sometimes we go three to four years without seeing each other. My family asked if they should accept it, and I told them it was like I was already living as a single man. They asked if I had done anything wrong, and they said no. So it’s my wife who has divorced me, but in my heart I haven’t divorced her,” Brother Sammy stated.
