McBrown Shifts Support to Female Musicians, Calls Out Lack of Appreciation from Male Artistes

Nana Ama McBrown

Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has indicated she is recalibrating how she uses her platforms, saying she now intends to give more visibility to female musicians after years of promoting several male artistes who, she feels, have not shown enough appreciation in return.

Speaking on Onua TV on March 23, 2026, McBrown explained that the decision also came with a personal reflection on how little attention she has given female acts in her own content choices and online support.

“I think we don’t support Ghanaian female musicians enough. Recently, I realized I’ve not been using the female artistes’ songs on my social media platforms. I’ve decided to switch and focus more on the females,” she said.

She went further to express frustration over what she describes as a pattern of low appreciation from some male artistes she has consistently backed over the years.

“The male artistes I normally support don’t get me gifts. Even when they travel, they don’t buy perfume for me. I would be in the sun and using their songs for content. I don’t want them to spend a lot on me, but at least perfume is not expensive, so they could afford it,” she shared.

Amid her remarks, McBrown pointed to highlife and Afrobeats musician Fameye as an exception, praising him for a personal gesture that stood out after she supported his work.

“The artiste who showed appreciation when I used his songs for videos was Fameye. He came to my house with some goodies, including food. He did so well, and I wasn’t even expecting that from him,” she disclosed.

She stressed that her support for artistes is not financially motivated, but she expects basic acknowledgment in return.

“I wouldn’t take money from any artiste, but they should show enough appreciation,” Nana Ama McBrown further stated.
