I Lost a Lot Because Jejereje Was Used politically – Stonebwoy Reveals

Stonebwoy

In the lead-up to Ghana’s 2024 general election, Jejereje by Stonebwoy found itself pulled into the political spotlight after it was adopted as a campaign anthem by the National Democratic Congress. The artiste says the development triggered unexpected tension with the record label he was signed to at the time.

Speaking in an interview with Angel FM on March 25, 2026, the BHIM Nation leader explained that his foreign label partners became convinced he had been financially engaged by the NDC and had deliberately created the track for political use. He said the claim was driven largely by circulating narratives rather than verified facts.

According to him, the situation escalated because his international partners held firm principles and expected a formal response to clarify the matter, including a public statement from him and his local management team.

“While working with foreign people on a record label I was working with at the time, our relationship became strained because they believed I, along with the local team, had taken money from a political party. They thought I recorded Jejereje for the NDC on purpose. I lost a lot because that song was used politically.

“They expected a press statement if it wasn’t true, because the narrative out there was that I had aligned myself with the NDC,” Stonebwoy said.

He also revisited the controversy surrounding his removal from the NDC’s victory concert held on January 5, 2025, where he had initially been announced as one of the headline acts.

He noted that his exclusion was influenced by suspicions among some party grassroots members who believed he was aligned with the New Patriotic Party.

Stonebwoy stressed that such political moments should instead encourage unity after elections, arguing that competing parties ought to close ranks once a new administration is in place.

“When a government comes, political parties, NDC and NPP have to come together as one. But just a few hours later, I was dropped from an event because people thought I was affiliated with the NPP,” the ‘Tuff Seed’ composer divulged.
