“Don’t Do Pass Yourself” – Medikal Advises Against Comparing Your Success to Others

Medikal

Medikal has urged people to stop using other people’s lifestyles and achievements as a yardstick for measuring their own success, saying personal growth is better judged by looking back at where one started.

The Ghanaian rapper said social media and public displays of wealth can make people feel they are falling behind, even when they have made significant progress in their own lives.

Speaking in videos circulating online, Medikal encouraged people to focus on their individual journeys and compare their present circumstances with where they were several years ago.

“I compare myself to myself, but when you compare yourself to other people. Compare yourself to how things were last year, two years ago, three years ago, five years ago. Don’t compare yourself to somebody who is living a different life now,” he said.

The rapper used his own experiences to illustrate his point, recalling the period when he was driving a Toyota Camry and contrasting it with what he can afford today.

For Medikal, being able to afford things he could not previously afford, including buying cars for other people, represents genuine progress.

“I calculate it from the time I was driving a Camry. Right now, I can do certain things and even buy cars for people. That’s growth be that,” he said.

He also warned against comparing one’s lifestyle with that of highly successful people without considering the difficult journey that brought them to that point.

Medikal mentioned dancehall artiste Shatta Wale as an example, noting that aspiring to own the same luxury items as someone else without understanding the sacrifices behind their success could create unnecessary pressure.

“If you compare yourself to someone like Shatta, you’ll say by now you should be driving a Rolls-Royce. But the hustle and hardship Shatta went through before buying that Rolls-Royce, you haven’t been through it. If you try to force it, you’ll run into problems,” he explained.

He advised people to recognise their financial limits and avoid putting themselves under pressure simply to maintain appearances or keep up with others.

“Don’t do pass yourself. Don’t compare yourself to anybody. Reach your level, know what you can afford and keep climbing higher,” he advised.

According to Medikal, every individual has a different starting point, background and set of experiences, making it unfair to measure one person’s journey against another’s.

He therefore urged people to remain patient with themselves and appreciate their progress rather than becoming consumed by what others have achieved.

“You don’t know what the other person has been through or where they came from. None of us has the same story, so don’t stress yourself too much,” the ‘Omo Ada’ rapper stated.
