“TGMA Doesn’t Define Who’s Doing Better in the Industry” – Kuami Eugene Argues

Kuami Eugene has pushed back against the idea that success in Ghana’s music scene should be judged solely by wins at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), arguing that longevity and consistency matter far more than trophies.

Speaking in an interview on MX24, the award-winning singer noted that several artistes have built strong, lasting careers without depending on award recognition to validate their impact.

“TGMA doesn’t define who’s doing better in the industry. There are some artistes who have been here for decades and they’re still doing well,” he said.

He advised musicians not to let award night outcomes affect their confidence, stressing that the music journey is bigger than a single event or accolade.

“Sometimes they forget if they’ve ever had a TGMA award before. It’s all good if you’re not the champion for that evening,” he shared.

Kuami Eugene also called on fans to stay loyal and supportive of their favourite artistes, regardless of whether they pick up awards or not.

“Your fans should be proud of you because you’ve worked as hard as everyone,” he added.
