Former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Yaw Ampofo.
The 46-year-old was taken into custody on Monday, August 24, 2026, after a video allegedly showing him making the threat circulated widely on social media.
The Police said the suspect remains in custody and is assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish what led to the alleged threat.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the video and the alleged comments made by Ayitey Powers to determine the appropriate course of action under the law.
In a statement issued through the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the Police also cautioned the public against circulating unverified claims about the case while the investigation continues.
The Command assured the public that the matter is receiving the necessary attention and that any further action will be guided by the findings of the ongoing investigation.
