Reverend Kwaku Agyei Antwi, popularly known as Rev Obofour, has challenged Christian women to pay more attention to how they dress at home, arguing that faith should not stop them from looking attractive for their husbands.
The leader of the Anointed Palace Chapel (APC) made the remarks while speaking to his congregation on August 23, 2026, where he criticised what he described as overly conservative dressing among some Christian women.
According to Rev Obofour, some women abandon fashionable and revealing outfits once they are at home because they have been made to believe that such clothing is incompatible with Christianity.
“Dress well as a woman and wear sexy clothes. Even when you are at home, you should wear clothes that show some skin around your thighs and cleavage. Some women wear dresses at home that are meant for funerals simply because they say they are Christians. Most of them are mad Christians,” he said.
He also took aim at religious teachings that discourage women from using makeup, insisting that Christianity should not be associated with an unkempt or unattractive appearance.
“Christianity does not mean you should look scary. God is an expensive God. When someone wears makeup, some pastors say the person will go to hellfire. Village pastors! Once a pastor says something, you put it in your head and believe it. Makeup helps you to look good. So now tell me, why would a pastor take his car to a spraying shop when it gets scratched?” he said.
Rev Obofour further questioned some of the standards promoted by pastors in Ghana, particularly teachings that portray certain fashion choices as incompatible with Christian values.
He cited items such as high heels and jeans, arguing that wearing them does not make a woman less committed to her faith or diminish her qualities as a wife.
For him, the strength of a Christian woman should be judged more by her character, her support for her husband and the way she raises her children than by the clothes she chooses to wear.
“The gospel in Africa is such that, because you can get people to listen to you, you just go ahead and say whatever you want. If I choose to have my wife wear a headgear to church or not, that does not determine whether she is a good wife.
“What makes her a good wife is her support for me and how she raises our children in a God-fearing manner. What makes her a good wife is her support for me and how she raises our children in a God-fearing manner. Whether your pastor’s wife wears a headgear or not does not make her a better pastor’s wife,” he further stated.
