Ekuona Family’s New Head Moves to Discontinue Case Involving Akosua Serwaa and Others in Daddy Lumba Row

A leadership shake-up within the Ekuona Royal Family of Parkoso has injected fresh tension into the legal fight surrounding Suit No. GJ/0437/2026, raising questions about the direction of the case as authority over the family’s affairs changes hands.

In a formal communication dated Wednesday, March 25, 2026, and sent to Baba Jammal & Associates, the newly installed acting family head, Abusuapanyin Kwabena Brefo, also known as Mr. Jones Kennedy Brefo, informed the law firm that he has now taken charge of all matters concerning the Ekuona Royal Family of Parkoso. He steps into the role following the exit of Mr. Victor Kofi Owusu Boahene, who, according to the letter, was customarily removed from office on March 11, 2026.

Brefo stressed that the transition in leadership extends directly into the family’s legal engagements. He noted that he is now responsible for all ongoing and previous cases pursued on behalf of the family and has requested a complete record of matters handled under his predecessor’s instructions.

Central to his directive is a firm call to discontinue a case currently before the courts. He instructed the law firm to halt proceedings in Suit No. GJ/0437/2026, Abusua Panin Kofi Owusu vrs Akosua Serwaa Fosuh & 3 Others, stating that the action no longer reflects the position or intent of the current family leadership.

The letter further directed counsel to bring the case to an end by the close of business on March 26, 2026. It also requested details of any outstanding legal fees relating to services already rendered on behalf of the family.

In addition, Brefo indicated that all future correspondence relating to the matter should be directed through his lawyer, Bright Obeng of Hayfron-Benjamin & Co., based at Opoku Bandoh Plaza in Kumasi.

The correspondence also referenced an attached confirmation from the Chief of Parkoso, which, according to the letter, endorses his appointment as acting head of the family.

The directive lands at a time when the underlying dispute is already before the Accra High Court, where an injunction application connected to preparations for a “Celebration of Life” event in honour of the late musician remains unresolved. The application, filed by family head Kofi Owusu, seeks to stop the planned commemoration.

When the matter was called on March 25, 2026, the court did not issue a ruling, instead adjourning the injunction hearing to April 23, 2026, prolonging uncertainty over the planned event and the broader dispute.
