Ghanaian politician and entertainment executive Sadiq Abdulai Abu has revisited the origins of 3Music Networks, challenging the widely held belief that launching a media venture requires heavy financial backing.
His reflections were prompted by a post from media personality Kafui Dey, who stressed that starting a podcast does not demand large upfront capital.
Looking back on how the platform took shape, Baba Sadiq explained that the journey began with very limited resources. He leaned on a laptop, his mother’s Kia Sportage, and the support of close creative collaborators to get things moving. According to him, formal registration was not done at the outset but only followed after the business secured its first advertising revenue. From there, growth was gradual, eventually leading to external investment five years later to scale operations.
He also provided further context in a follow-up post, noting that his role as founding Country Manager of Boomplay helped sustain him financially during the early, uncertain stages of building the company.
The conversation was triggered by Kafui Dey’s assertion: 🎙️ “You don’t need GH¢50,000 to start a podcast. Let me save you money and excuses. One big lie in media:”

Started @3musicnetworks with just a laptop, my mom’s KIA sportage and credited creative services from some close friends. Actually didn’t register it till our first advertising cheque was ready. Kept building till we accessed investment in year 5 to scale up. https://t.co/zpAXBUu2kH

I must, however, add that my salary from Boomplay as the founding Country Manager cushioned me during the early build-up phase. https://t.co/sYYpI53O3C
