The General Overseer of Christ Revival Baptist Church, Prophet Johnson Adu-Boahen, has sparked conversation after questioning the financial readiness of young men earning GH¢3,000 or less to sustain romantic relationships.
Addressing his congregation, he argued that men within that income bracket should prioritise building stability instead of pursuing relationships they may struggle to maintain. He suggested that financial pressure makes such commitments unrealistic for many young earners.
In his view, romance has become a pursuit better suited for affluent individuals, not men who are still struggling with basic living conditions such as laundry and rent obligations.
“How do you expect to be successful earning GH¢3,000 a month and still be in a relationship? Some things are reserved for rich men. You see people like Dr Osei Kwame Despite, Dr Kweku Oteng, and Ibrahim Mahama chasing women, so you also want to chase women, don’t you think about yourself? When rent is due, pressure is on you. You wash your clothes by hand and still want to be a relationship,” he said.
The cleric also revisited an earlier stance he made in 2025, where he criticised what he described as unjustified low wages in some workplaces.
He maintained that employers who pay GH¢1,000 or less are acting unfairly toward their staff and contributing to the erosion of workers’ aspirations.
“The most wicked person in the church is someone who employs people and decides not to pay them. Also, those who pay less than GH¢1,000 are equally wrong. People should be stealing from such a person,” Prophet Johnson Adu-Boahen stated.
