Charterhouse confirms Grand Arena as TGMA 2026 venue after switch

27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards

The organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), Charterhouse Productions, have confirmed a change of venue for the 27th edition of the ceremony, announcing that the event will now take place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

This update overturns an earlier plan that had placed the awards at the Palms Convention Centre within the La Palm Royal Beach Resort.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Charterhouse explained that the decision effectively returns the show to what it described as its “home” after six years away. The organisers noted that the Grand Arena remains best suited for the scale and technical demands of the production.

“The move to the Grand Arena reflects the evolving scale and production ambition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards. With its expansive capacity, advanced technical infrastructure, and enhanced production flexibility, the Grand Arena offers the ideal environment to deliver the world-class experience that audiences have come to expect,” the statement read.

Behind the scenes, the switch comes after weeks of uncertainty surrounding venue availability. Charterhouse’s Head of Public Events and Communications, Robert Klah, had earlier indicated in April 2026 that securing the Grand Arena was not guaranteed due to competing plans by its managers, prompting the organisers to consider alternatives.

“The crux of the matter is that the owners want their place… whatever they want to use it for, it’s within their space to use it,” Klah had said at the time.

He also pointed out the limitations of the backup option, noting, “Plan B was the Palms Convention Center, but it is not the most suitable place. But if we create the kind of stage we create at the Grand Arena, it won’t work,” he had explained.

Despite the uncertainty, Klah maintained that Charterhouse never ruled out a return to the Grand Arena, a goal that has now been achieved.

The organisers have also acknowledged the role of key partners in securing the venue, expressing appreciation to headline sponsor Telecel Ghana, the sector ministry, the Government of Ghana, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support.
