“I Feel Like I am Going Mad” – Abu Trica on NACOC Detention Trauma

Abu Trica

Ghanaian socialite Abu Trica says he is still dealing with the emotional aftermath of his time in detention, describing a sharp decline in his mental well-being following the experience.

In an interview with Captain Smart on Captain Smart on Onua TV, he revisited what he called a deeply distressing chapter of his life while in the custody of the Narcotics Control Commission. According to him, the period left him shaken and continues to affect him long after his release.

He described the detention as one of the lowest points he has ever experienced, saying the memories still surface and weigh heavily on him.

“I feel bad. Sometimes I will just be talking to myself, I cry, and I even feel like I am going mad,” he said during the interview.

Abu Trica recounted that he was held in a single room for about a month, spending the entire period in isolation. He claimed the conditions, particularly being kept alone in a dark space, had a severe effect on his psychological health.

He added that the lack of human contact and prolonged confinement made the situation increasingly difficult to endure, leaving him with lingering mental strain.

Beyond the conditions of his detention, he said his thoughts were frequently fixed on his four-year-old child, noting that the separation added to his emotional distress since he could not easily communicate with family.

Abu Trica also pushed back against the allegations that led to his arrest, insisting he has never been involved in drug-related activity. He further claimed that officials at NACOC conducted background checks that, according to him, showed no history linking him to narcotics offences.

He said despite those findings, he was still held in custody.

Now out, Abu Trica says the experience has not fully left him. He maintains that the psychological impact remains, with the memory of the month-long detention still affecting his day-to-day emotional state.
