A fast-moving blaze tore through sections of Makola Market on Wednesday, leaving several trading stalls gutted and goods valued at tens of thousands of cedis reduced to ashes.
The fire broke out in the heart of the bustling commercial centre and escalated within minutes, with flames and heavy smoke quickly engulfing nearby shops. Traders and shoppers rushed out in panic as the situation intensified.
By the time the fire spread across multiple sections of the market, significant property damage had already been recorded. Merchandise, personal belongings, and other stock belonging to traders were lost in the destruction, with authorities yet to establish the full scale of losses.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service remain on site, actively working to bring the situation under control and stop the flames from reaching adjoining structures and densely packed stalls.
