TikToker Camilla Alhassan has been sentenced to one year in prison by an Accra Circuit Court after admitting to publishing false claims about President John Dramani Mahama on social media.
The 43-year-old content creator pleaded guilty to charges of offensive conduct and publication of false news, leading to her conviction and sentencing on Thursday, July 16.
The case centered on a series of TikTok videos shared between late June and early July, in which Alhassan alleged that President Mahama had sacrificed 32 cows in ritual ceremonies to secure victory in the 2024 general election. Prosecutors told the court the accusations were completely baseless and unsupported by any evidence.
Investigators further accused her of spreading additional false claims by linking the government’s distribution of sanitary pads to victims affected by the June 29 floods to the alleged rituals. The prosecution said those assertions were also entirely unsubstantiated.
Before sentencing, the court had remanded Alhassan into lawful custody and directed that she undergo a pregnancy test.
Following her guilty plea to all the charges, the court reportedly proceeded to convict her and imposed a one-year custodial sentence.
