Awal has opened the door to reconciliation, publicly asking Fameye, Medikal, and others in Ghana’s creative industry to forgive him for any hurt he may have caused throughout his career.
The rapper believes it is time to move beyond old rivalries and misunderstandings, saying unity is essential if the local music industry is to reach greater heights.
Speaking on Okay FM, Awal reflected on the breakdown of his friendship with Fameye, describing it as a disagreement that grew out of a business arrangement years ago.
According to him, the misunderstanding began in 2019 after he featured Fameye on his song Akuapem Poloo. Awal said he paid the singer GH¢500 to appear in the music video, but Fameye did not show up for the production.
He explained that the money was later refunded, after which Fameye requested that his verse be taken off the song, effectively ending their collaboration.
Although several years have passed, Awal admitted the incident still weighs on him, saying he regrets how the friendship faded and felt it was important to apologise publicly.
“I had issues with Fameye. I don’t even know how it ended, but there was a misunderstanding between us. I don’t know how he felt. Maybe he felt really bad. I would like to tell him that if I’ve stepped on his toes, I’m sorry. We were friends and there was business involved, but sometimes I feel bad that we don’t have that kind of vibe anymore,” Awal said.
He also acknowledged that his relationship with Medikal was affected by the competitive nature of rap music, where lyrical exchanges and diss tracks are often viewed as part of the culture.
“As for Medikal, I recorded a song, Take It or Leave It. In the hip-hop fraternity, it’s part of the culture to take shots at someone. Medikal also used to like me and support me, but through rap culture, one way or the other, I stepped on his toes,” he stated.
Awal did not limit his apology to the two musicians. He extended the gesture to every colleague in Ghana’s entertainment industry who may have been offended by his actions or remarks over the years.
He urged stakeholders to let go of past grievances and work together toward a common goal of elevating Ghanaian music on the global stage.
“To all my colleagues in the industry, if I’ve stepped on your toes in one way or another, I want to say please find a place in your heart to forgive me. Let’s do this together because we are doing this for the culture. Let’s put Ghana on the map,” Awal further stated.
