Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has offered a humorous take on the idea of telling someone they have been named as your next of kin.
McBrown made the playful remark while speaking with Ghanaian content creator Quecy Official about his relationship with his younger brother in a video shared on social media.
According to McBrown, revealing such information could make the beneficiary too comfortable about the prospect of eventually inheriting another person’s wealth and possessions.
“If I make you my next of kin, I will never inform you for you to kill me before my time. I will never let you know you’re my next of kin,” McBrown said.
Her comments were clearly made in jest, but she used the moment to encourage Quecy to ensure that his younger brother develops his own financial independence rather than relying on what he may eventually inherit.
McBrown suggested that Quecy should motivate his brother to work hard and build something for himself, instead of allowing him to become overly focused on the properties or wealth that could be left behind for him.
She argued that any inheritance Quecy eventually gives his younger brother should serve as an addition to what he has already achieved through his own efforts.
“You’ve made him your next of kin so he knows you will soon go for him to take over. Don’t give it to him so that you will live long. Let him work for his own and when you add yours to it, it becomes a bonus,” Nana Ama McBrown further stated.
