Yaa Pono has dismissed any suggestion that personal differences would prevent him from recording a song with Shatta Wale, saying he would consider the collaboration if the right song came along.
The rapper explained that his approach to features is driven primarily by the music and the kind of contribution he believes another artiste can make to a particular record.
Speaking to Dr. Pounds on Hitz FM, Yaa Pono said approaching Shatta Wale for a collaboration would not be a problem for him.
“I don’t have a problem working with him [Shatta Wale]. But if you’re working on a song, you need to have someone in mind for a feature before contacting them. That won’t be something difficult for me to do.”
His comments provide a glimpse into how he decides which artistes to approach when working on new material. Rather than seeking collaborations simply because two artistes are popular names, Yaa Pono says the song itself should determine who fits the record.
He cited his previous collaborations with Sarkodie as an example of that approach.
According to Yaa Pono, the fact that he already has songs with Sarkodie does not mean every new project automatically requires another collaboration. Instead, he would reach out when he believes Sarkodie is the right person for a particular song.
“Sarkodie and I have songs. I also have songs with him. So, if I’m making a song and I feel like having him on it, I will send it to him.”
