Daddy Lumba’s Family Breaks Silence on Legal Row With First Wife, Akosua Serwaa

The family of the late Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, well-known as Daddy Lumba, has issued a strong legal rebuttal to an injunction filed by his first wife, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, and her relatives seeking to halt his funeral preparations.

In a formal letter dated October 11, 2025, the Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta, through their solicitors Baba Jamal & Associates, rejected the claims by Mrs. Fosuh’s side as unfounded and inconsistent with both Akan customary law and the late musician’s own directives. The document, signed by attorney Fati Ali-Yallah, was addressed to Mrs. Fosuh’s counsel in Germany, Kwadwo Addeah-Safo, Esq.

The lawyers asserted that Mrs. Fosuh abandoned her husband around fifteen years ago after he became gravely ill and had since lived separately from him. They added that in 2018, she wrote threatening divorce action against Lumba, but he dismissed her claims and indicated he had already moved on with his life.

According to the family’s lawyers, Mrs. Fosuh herself later performed the traditional act of presenting drinks to Lumba’s family, a gesture that under Akan custom signifies the formal dissolution of a marriage. On that basis, they maintained that she was no longer his wife when he passed away.

They further reminded her legal representatives that, under tradition, the right to oversee burial and funeral matters belongs to the deceased’s family, not a former spouse. “Your client has no right to determine how the Fosu Royal Family conducts the funeral of the late Daddy Lumba,” the letter stated.

The legal team also clarified that the family officially recognizes Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as Daddy Lumba’s wife. They noted she had shared her life with the singer for over fifteen years, supporting him through illness and raising six children with him. Her position as his spouse, the letter said, is accepted without dispute within the family.

Addressing issues related to inheritance, the lawyers explained that all of Daddy Lumba’s assets constitute part of his estate. They said arrangements for distribution would be handled jointly by the family, his children, and their mothers once the estate is formally administered. The lawyers cautioned all individuals to refrain from tampering with the musician’s properties until that process is complete.

In a key revelation, the Fosu Royal Family’s lawyers disclosed they are in possession of written instructions personally left by Daddy Lumba detailing his wishes for his funeral, burial, and the handling of his estate.

Their statement follows an earlier release from Mrs. Fosuh’s family, which expressed surprise at funeral arrangements proceeding without their input. That release cited German marriage laws to argue that her union with the musician remained legally valid at the time of his death.
