Otto Addo Makes History by Leading Ghana’s Black Stars to Another World Cup

Otto Addo

Otto Addo has cemented his place in Ghana’s football legacy by becoming the first coach to qualify the Black Stars for two consecutive FIFA World Cups.

The milestone was achieved on Sunday, October 12, when Ghana edged Comoros 1-0 in their final Group I qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium, sealing a spot at the 2026 World Cup. The result confirmed Ghana’s return to the global tournament for the second straight time under Addo’s leadership.

Addo, who steered the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar following a four-year absence from the competition, now becomes the only coach to guide Ghana through successive qualifications.

This latest achievement secures Ghana’s fifth appearance at football’s biggest stage. Across the continent, only Cameroon (8), Morocco (7), Tunisia (7), and Nigeria (6) have featured more frequently.

With qualification secured, Otto Addo and his technical team will shift focus to building a competitive squad for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
