Stephanie Benson has questioned why having multiple partners is more readily accepted for men than for women. She argued that women should also have the freedom to choose more than one husband.
The Ghanaian-British singer raised the issue during an interview on Hitz FM, suggesting that relationships have long operated under rules that give men greater freedom while expecting women to remain committed to a single partner.
“If I could bring that back so women to have more than one husband, that will be the ideal situation. I think it’s about time we had more than one husband,” she said.
According to Benson, the ability to maintain more than one relationship should not be viewed as something exclusive to men. She believes women are equally capable of managing multiple partners, but their loyalty and commitment have often been mistaken for a lack of capacity.
“I think it’s important because men underestimate women. They think they are the only ones who need more than one woman, but a true woman, our juices, it flows by far more than that. It is only because we are dedicated and loyal. That’s why we stay with one man,” she stated.
Benson further argued that choosing monogamy should be understood as a personal decision rather than evidence that women are incapable of having more than one partner.
She said women could handle the emotional, intellectual and practical demands that come with having multiple relationships, questioning why the same possibility afforded to men should not apply to women.
“But if that rule was there, listen, we can satisfy a multitude of men. Intellectual satisfaction for the man is there; we can support, and we can look after how many children? So why can’t we have two, three men? I mean, I can,” Stephanie Benson averred.
