‘I Quickly Ran To The Police’ – McBrown Recalls Assault By Ex-Lover

Nana Ama McBrown

Nana Ama McBrown has recounted how a relationship she endured for two years turned violent when she tried to retrieve her passport from her partner, using the experience to warn people against remaining in abusive relationships until the situation becomes dangerous.

The actress and media personality shared the account on Onua Showtime, where she spoke about the need to recognise unhealthy relationships and make the decision to leave when necessary. She urged people experiencing verbal, emotional or physical abuse to prioritise their well-being rather than wait for matters to reach a breaking point.

“When we are in relationships, and there is abuse, whether it is verbal, emotional or whatever, we should have a way of healing ourselves, and if we can move on, we move on. You don’t wait till the last point because it can bring a lot of unwanted situations,” she said.

Recalling her past relationship, McBrown disclosed that the man had promised to relocate her to London, but she later discovered that he was involved with several women.

She explained that her visits to his house often ended in disappointment, as she would find another woman there. On some occasions, she had to wait for him to finish spending time with the other women before he would attend to her.

Despite the situation, McBrown remained in the relationship for two years before deciding to end it. However, her attempt to retrieve her passport from the man resulted in a physical confrontation, marking the first time she had experienced such violence from a partner.

“That was the first time a man laid his hand on me… After he hit me, he regretted it and kept saying sorry. He decided to escort me home and sat in the small car I was driving at the time, but when we got to one of the police barriers, I quickly got down and ran to the police to arrest him because he had beaten me. Yes, I got him arrested,” she admitted.

McBrown said the injuries she sustained were minor and healed within a few days, but the incident left her with a lasting lesson about ending relationships safely.

She explained that the experience changed her approach to breakups, making her cautious about informing a partner of her decision before she was ready to leave. According to her, keeping such plans private can be important when there is uncertainty about how the other person might react.

“From that day I learned that when I want to break up with someone, I’m not going to tell them. I will plan my exit quietly, and when I am ready, I will leave because I don’t know the kind of mood the person will be in,” the famous Ghanaian actress further stated.
