Samuel Danso Arthur, father of award-winning rapper Kwesi Arthur, has publicly weighed in on the escalating dispute between his son and former record label Ground Up, describing the situation as deeply distressing for him as a parent.
The controversy intensified after Kwesi Arthur made a social media post accusing Ground Up and its chief executive of extortion, intimidation, excessive financial demands and deliberate efforts to obstruct his independent music releases.
As conversations around the fallout continued to gather momentum, Samuel Danso Arthur appeared in an interview shared online the same day, where he expressed concern over how far the disagreement has gone and the emotional toll it has taken on him.
He explained that one of his biggest frustrations stems from claims that the label owns the intellectual property tied to the artiste, a situation he says has effectively stripped him of the freedom to even share images of his own son.
Danso said that since he has no means of buying back his son’s independence, the record label should also be prepared to account for the very source of Kwesi Arthur’s existence.
“I don’t even have the right to use the image of my child to do anything. I am a simple, ordinary, poor Ghanaian. I don’t need money. I’m not looking for money. But I am putting it to Kwesi’s management that they should bring back my sperm.
“I can donate it to any nearby hospital for them to produce another Kwesi for me. And if they can do that, then whatever they are demanding from my boy, if it is a loan we have to take, we are ready,” he said.
Beyond the emotional outburst, the rapper’s father made it clear that he intends to actively pursue clarity and accountability on both sides of the dispute, saying the constant public exchanges have become exhausting.
“I think, as a father, I have to push to every extent possible to get the truth out. Right now, the daily back-and-forth has become too much. I’m no longer interested in that.
“I am going to take it up and push both the management and my boy to the wall to get the truth out of it. But mind you, right now, Ground Up is taking custody of my blood,” Kwesi Arthur’s father further stated.
