“I Feared for My Daughter’s Life” – Efia Odo’s Mother Speaks on Her Political Involvement

Efia Odo and her mother, Adombi Serwaa

Adombi Serwaa, the mother of Ghanaian actress Efia Odo, has opened up about the emotional strain she endured following her daughter’s involvement in politics, describing it as a deeply unsettling period for her family.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on May 3, 2026, she said she was away from Ghana when reports and circulating videos about Efia Odo’s political engagement began reaching her, leaving her anxious and unsettled.

“I wasn’t here in Ghana, but I was hearing everything. Elders were also calling me. I was unable to sleep well out of fear. I feared for my daughter’s life,” she said.

She explained that the situation eventually forced her to step in and speak directly with her daughter, urging her to reconsider her political involvement.

“I told Efia Odo I didn’t want to lose her, so if she loves me, she shouldn’t involve herself. I would allow her to do anything she wants but not politics,” she stated.

Adombi Serwaa stressed that her daughter’s safety and her own peace of mind outweigh any financial or professional gains that could come from such exposure.

“Money can’t buy my life and my happiness. If there’s peace in the money I’m being offered, I will take it, but if not, I don’t want it. No money can buy the love I have for my daughter,” she shared.

She also revealed that she was subjected to threats from individuals who insisted she caution her daughter to withdraw from political activities.

“A lot of people threatened me that if I didn’t advise my daughter to stop her involvement in politics, something would happen to her,” she said.

Although she is not heavily active on social media, she noted that the volume of videos and messages sent to her eventually made the situation impossible to ignore.

“I don’t usually follow the things going on social media because of my busy schedule. So when they started sending the videos to me, I decided to stand firm and talk to my daughter. The amazing part is when I spoke to her, she listened,” she noted.

Reflecting on the experience, she added that she is now cautious about the idea of any of her children entering politics.

“I don’t think I would ever allow any of my children to go into politics because of what I’ve seen. For now, I don’t know, but if it’s decent and there’s peace, I might consider,” Adombi Serwaa further stated.
