27th TGMA: Kuami Eugene names Medikal favourite for Artiste of the Year race

With the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards drawing closer, Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has tipped Medikal as his favourite to walk away with the coveted Artiste of the Year crown.

Speaking during an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM on May 7, 2026, Kuami Eugene described this year’s race as one of the most competitive in recent memory, pointing to the dominance of both Medikal and Wendy Shay throughout the year under review.

According to him, the two artistes delivered what he considers the biggest songs of 2025, highlighting Medikal’s “Shoulder” and Wendy Shay’s “Too Late” as records that made a major impact across the country.

Even so, Kuami Eugene believes Medikal’s connection with the public could prove decisive when the final votes are counted.

“I think Medikal might win because besides the fact that he’s a good musician, he has the masses behind him. Wendy Shay has the masses as well, but the ambience of Medikal, the masses, it’s bigger. So, if he gets a successful year, it reflects in his work,” he said.

The singer added that the eventual winner would depend heavily on voter decisions, encouraging fans and music lovers to judge the influence and achievements of the nominees before casting their votes.

Debate around this year’s Artiste of the Year category has intensified in recent weeks, with entertainment pundits and celebrities split over whether Medikal, Wendy Shay or Black Sherif deserves the top honour.

The Artiste of the Year category at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards also features Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton ahead of the ceremony scheduled for May 9, 2026.
