Kelvyn Boy Calls For Modern Highlife Revival With A Gen Z Twist

Kelvyn Boy

Kelvyn Boy is urging today’s musicians to keep Highlife at the heart of their sound, saying the genre remains a defining thread of Ghana’s cultural story.

Speaking in a May 7, 2026, interview on YFM, he acknowledged that Highlife has shifted over time but stressed that its influence should not fade from modern production.

According to him, younger audiences may not fully relate to the original style, which makes it necessary for artists to reshape it without stripping away its identity.

“Highlife is part of who we are. That’s our identity,” Kelvyn Boy said.

He added that the goal is not to recreate the past note for note, but to allow traces of it to live on in new music.

“Even if we can’t recreate it exactly as it was, we can include something that reminds us of Highlife,” he added.

Kelvyn Boy believes the genre can still thrive in today’s music landscape if it is adapted thoughtfully for current listeners.

“We can do Highlife in a way that fits Gen Z’s vibe without losing its essence,” he shared.

For him, preservation is not about imitation. It is about evolution that still carries a familiar echo.

“We can do it our way; just let something remind you of Highlife, and that’s all it takes.”
