“Without Shatta Wale, Industry Would Have Collapsed” – C-Zar Claims

C-Zar

Ghanaian highlife and rap act C-Zar has stirred conversation with his remarks on Shatta Wale’s impact, insisting that the dancehall artiste has played a central role in keeping many artistes visible in the industry today.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, he praised the Shatta Movement leader, arguing that Ghana’s music scene could have lost its footing if not for Shatta Wale’s drive and consistency over the years.

He also turned attention to what he described as the shortcomings of traditional media during that period. According to him, several radio personalities allegedly sidelined Ghanaian music, including Shatta Wale’s records, in favour of Nigerian content.

C-Zar believes that this trend contributed to Nigeria gaining a stronger global footprint in African music.

“I respect Shatta, everything aside. Do you know that if not for Shatta, the industry would have collapsed? Some of the presenters back then were stupid; they intentionally decided to ruin artistes. They’d rather play Nigerian music than Ghanaian music.

“If we are being honest, Nigeria is not better than us. Population-wise, yes, but not in music. They stole from us. Many of their hit songs were from Ghana, but we as Ghanaians don’t support our own, especially presenters, so we fail to stand up for what belongs to us,” he said.

Despite the criticism and reduced airplay, C-Zar said Shatta Wale managed to build a loyal fanbase that sustained his career when mainstream support was limited.

“Through all the challenges and criticism, he stood his ground and built something for himself. The traditional media didn’t play his songs, yet his fans could sing them word for word; it amazes me how he does it. He brought the industry alive; without him, it would have collapsed long ago.

“He’s one of the richest in the industry. Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and the others have relevance today thanks to him,” C-Zar claimed.
