Ghanaian actress and television Nana Ama McBrown has fired back after comments made about her during a discussion on a podcast hosted by Shatta Wale’s PR representative, Sammy Baah Flex, sparked controversy.
The debate stemmed from McBrown’s earlier remarks suggesting that organisers of the Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) should compensate her for appearances on the red carpet. That comment resurfaced on Sammy Flex’s show, where it was dissected by panelists who accused her of setting unreasonable expectations and being overly self-important.
McBrown, however, did not take kindly to the tone of the conversation. She pushed back strongly, describing the remarks as disrespectful and insisting that her years of work in the entertainment industry command recognition rather than ridicule.
Addressing the issue on her Onua Showtime programme, she spoke directly and emotionally, making it clear she felt misrepresented and undermined.
McBrown stated, “I met Sammy Flex in the UK and told him, Sammy, you are not an industry person, so you don’t sit on your podcast and misinterpret what I said. McBrown, herrr, put some respect on this name, okay. I have played a lot of roles for the industry to be where it is today, that you even have the chance to sit on a podcast. When you’re talking about me, know where you’re coming from. If you’re in my lane, you can speak about me, but if you’re far away, shut up and respect me.”
She further clarified that she has no habit of addressing people indirectly, stressing that she prefers to confront issues head-on.
“I said it to his face. You know I don’t speak behind people’s backs. I say it to their face,” she added.
Despite the tension, McBrown maintained that her exchange with Sammy Flex was handled in a direct but respectful manner. She explained that her main concern was understanding why she had been turned into a subject of discussion on his platform in the first place.
“I met Sammy Flex in the UK and asked what I did wrong for him and his team to talk about me on their podcast. I told him to respect my name because I’ve contributed a lot to the industry. If you’re not in my lane, don’t speak on me.
