Oboy Salinko Targets NPP Seat as Actor Revives Parliamentary Ambitions

Salinko

Kumawood actor Oboy Salinko says he is preparing for another shot at Parliament, this time with his eyes set on contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Fakye TV’s ‘Fakye Showbiz’, the actor, whose real name is Abraham Kofi Davis, said he now feels financially secure enough to shift his attention toward politics and community development.

According to him, his decision is driven by a desire to make a difference in constituencies he believes have been neglected despite years of political representation.

Salinko did not hold back in his criticism of some lawmakers, accusing them of enriching themselves while ordinary residents continue to struggle with poor living conditions and inadequate infrastructure.

“When you speak the truth, they claim you are disrespectful. They are embezzling public funds! We have to enter and make things right. God has blessed me. If I stand and you don’t vote for me, no problem, I just wanted to help you. So very soon, people would be calling me their MP, either in Atwima Kwanwoma or Old Tafo,” he said.

The actor is no stranger to electoral politics. In the 2016 general election, he contested the Atwima Kwanwoma parliamentary seat on the ticket of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP). Although he did not win, he believes the outcome proved he had political potential.

“The first one, I had about 1800 votes, so it showed that I had what it took. So it taught me that it was about the numbers. I even had calls from the NPP and the NDC,” he noted.

This time around, Salinko says he has no plans to run as an independent candidate, insisting he wants to test his popularity within one of Ghana’s dominant political parties, particularly the NPP.

“I would not run as an independent; I have to test myself in one of the major parties. I had a dream that a delegate from one of Ghana’s largest parties, which mainly draws its support from the Ashanti Region, encouraged me to run and said they would all vote for me. I have bigger ambitions, but I want to first run for MP. When I get selected, then I know that I can go higher. But for now, I want to check how the atmosphere is,” he said.

He is considering contesting either the Old Tafo or Atwima Kwanwoma seat, both of which are currently occupied by sitting Members of Parliament. Vincent Ekow Assafuah represents Old Tafo, while Kofi Amankwa-Manu Esq is the MP for Atwima Kwanwoma.
