Christiana Awuni Reveals Why She Still Depends on Uber Despite Fame

Christiana Awuni

Despite decades in Ghana’s movie industry, veteran actress Christiana Awuni says she still moves around without owning a personal car, relying instead on ride-hailing services to manage her daily activities.

The Kumawood actress opened up about the challenge during an interview, describing transportation as one of the most expensive parts of her routine. According to her, attending events, meetings and handling basic errands often means constantly booking rides through Uber.

Awuni said using public transport is not an option for her because of the public attention and criticism she believes would follow if she boarded a trotro.

“I don’t have a car, I use Uber for my movements. I can’t pick trotro either, I will be criticized, meanwhile those critics have not bought me a car,” she said.

She also recalled a period when she owned a manual car but could not drive it herself because she never learned how to operate manual transmission vehicles. As a result, she frequently depended on one of her children whenever she needed to use the car.

According to the actress, the situation later took another turn after the vehicle was impounded around the 37 Military Hospital enclave.

Awuni said she was subsequently contacted and instructed to report to an office to process documents and clear an outstanding debt tied to the vehicle before it could be released.

However, she explained that the amount demanded from her at the time was beyond her financial reach.

“They called me that there’s a debt on the car so I should come and pay, and I told them I couldn’t afford the balance,” she revealed.

According to Awuni, she has remained without a personal vehicle and continues to depend fully on ride-hailing apps for transportation since then.
