KK Fosu Explains Why Top Artistes Missed Daddy Lumba’s Funeral

From his perspective, Ghanaian musician Kaakyire Kwame Fosu, well-known as KK Fosu, believes uncertainty surrounding planning was the main reason many artistes stayed away from Daddy Lumba’s funeral.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, the highlife star addressed public questions about his own absence and that of several other well-known entertainers from the late legend’s final rites. According to him, the issue was not a lack of respect but confusion over arrangements, particularly the funeral date.

KK Fosu pointed to Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu as a central figure in what he described as poor coordination, arguing that unclear communication discouraged many potential attendees.

He maintained that a well-structured plan would have made a significant difference and attracted far more prominent figures from the music industry.

“In life, proper planning always pays off. Even God, who created the world, didn’t do it in a day; He took seven days to plan and create it. Likewise, if you want to accomplish something in this world, you need a solid plan. If the Abusuapanin and the family had organized things properly, more people would have been able to attend,” he said.

Daddy Lumba died on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 60. He reportedly fell ill at his residence in East Legon and was rushed to the Bank Hospital, where he later passed away.

His death was followed by a prolonged family dispute involving his immediate relatives, led by his elder sister Ernestina Fosu, also known as Akosua Brempomaa, and the family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu. The disagreement centered on funeral arrangements, especially the proposed date.

Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu fixed the funeral for December 13, 2025, a decision strongly opposed by Ernestina and the immediate family. After months of legal wrangling, the Accra High Court ruled that the burial could go ahead on that date.

The ceremony eventually took place on December 13, though Daddy Lumba’s immediate family did not attend.

A number of public figures were present, including Nana Acheampong of Lumba Brothers fame, National Democratic Congress National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene. Business leaders such as Dr Osei Kwame Despite, Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, and Kennedy Agyapong, popularly known as Kenpong, were also in attendance.

Even with these appearances, the funeral drew criticism from sections of the public who felt the turnout fell short of what was expected for an artiste of Daddy Lumba’s stature.
