Stonebwoy has disclosed that keeping BHIMFest running has become a major financial commitment, revealing that he often funds the annual music festival with money from his own performances as corporate sponsorship continues to decline.
Speaking to Black Rasta on 3FM ahead of the BHIMFest UK concert scheduled for August 2026, the famous Ghanaian artiste said producing a world-class concert requires substantial investment, a burden that has become even heavier without consistent backing from sponsors.
“It’s not cheap at all for an artiste like myself without any support,” he revealed.
The award-winning musician attributed much of the funding challenge to restrictions that have affected sponsorship deals from alcoholic beverage companies and betting brands, industries that previously played a significant role in supporting large entertainment events.
“Most of the avenues, especially the alcoholic beverage sponsorships that we used to partner with, have been shut down by some authorities. Those are the areas that were able to support these shows because of how marketable those products are,” he stated.
Stonebwoy explained that the shrinking pool of sponsors has made it increasingly difficult to secure the resources needed for productions on the scale of BHIMFest. Despite the obstacles, he said his passion for the festival has kept it going, even when it means financing much of it himself.
“It’s very difficult to actually raise finances to do such calibre of shows. Passion leads it all, and we are able to scrape the ground and put one or two things together to continue to showcase Ghana in that light.”
He stressed that the financial constraints have not stopped him from maintaining the festival’s international appeal. Over the years, BHIMFest has featured celebrated performers including Nigerian superstar Davido and Jamaican dancehall artiste Spice.
Asked whether income from his international concerts helps bankroll the festival, Stonebwoy confirmed that it remains his primary source of funding.
“Absolutely. That’s just how you reinvest in yourself. I think 80 or 90 percent of the time, that’s how I actually do it,” he stressed.
