Roman Fada, the former running mate of late Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) founder Akua Donkor, has opened a new party office in Accra as he steps up efforts to keep the political movement alive ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Fada, popularly known as Philip Appiah Kubi, announced the development in a video shared on social media, giving followers a look inside the newly established office and the party’s ongoing organisational activities.
Photographs of prominent Ghanaian political figures can be seen displayed inside the facility, reflecting the party’s continued engagement with the country’s political landscape.
The development comes as Roman Fada seeks to preserve the political legacy of Akua Donkor, who established the GFP in 2012 and became one of the country’s most recognisable political figures through her repeated participation in presidential elections.
Akua Donkor died on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly known as Ridge Hospital, in Accra. At the time, she was preparing to contest the December 2024 presidential election and had been listed among the candidates.
Before her death, she had chosen Roman Fada as her running mate for the elections. Fada, a broadcaster and media personality, was also known for his involvement in the entertainment industry, particularly his association with legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba, whom he managed.
Following her death, the Ghana Freedom Party leadership settled on Fada as her replacement and presidential candidate on November 4, 2024.
His bid to take part in the 2024 presidential election, however, fell through after the Electoral Commission disqualified him over errors and irregularities in his nomination forms.
Despite missing out on the presidential race, Fada has continued to identify with the GFP and work towards maintaining its political relevance after the loss of its founder.
