Driver’s mate jailed four years for stealing GH₵5,000 ram
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Cephas Okine, a driver’s mate, to four years in prison for stealing a ram valued at GH₵5,000.
Okine, also known as Shatta, stole the ram, which the complainant had purchased for an upcoming event. He was charged with unlawful entry and theft, pleading guilty before the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah.
Before sentencing, the prosecution revealed that Okine had a prior theft case and had been ordered by a Teshie court to sign a two-year bond of good behavior on November 19, 2024. However, he breached the bond within three months.
Prosecutor Inspector Shiela Tetteh said the complainant, Richard Thompson, an IT engineer residing in Teshie, discovered the theft when neighbors spotted Okine dragging the ram away between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. on February 16, 2025.
Residents apprehended Okine, found a pair of scissors on him, and handed him over to the police, according to a GNA report. During interrogation, he admitted to the crime.
Citing his repeated offenses, the court sentenced Okine to four years in prison to serve as a deterrent.
