Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has sounded a word of caution to his colleagues in the music industry, warning that talent alone is not enough to sustain a career.
Sharing his thoughts in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the award-winning artiste argued that rappers who fail to commercialize their craft risk struggling to make a living, no matter how gifted they are.
“If you be rapper for Ghana, wey you no commercialize your craft and let some Alo fans get to your head thinking you got the hardest bars, hunger wey go kill you,” Medikal wrote.
He went on to advise rappers to avoid boxing themselves into one style, stressing the importance of versatility. “As a rapper in Ghana, know how to balance the scale, sometimes punchlines, sometimes Azonto, learn from me,” he said.
Known for blending street rap with commercial hits, Medikal emphasized that true success lies in both entertaining fans and sustaining oneself financially. “As you de think about the fans, think about your self too, if you no chop, how you go fi feed the fans… The goal is to entertain and inspire.”
