Akosua Agyapong has reignited her long-running battle with the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), accusing its leadership of financial misconduct and calling for greater accountability.
During an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, the veteran Ghanaian singer alleged that money meant for musicians has been diverted by some officials. She insisted that such practices will not go unchecked. “Those who are involved will vomit the money,” she declared.
Agyapong also took aim at Ghana’s copyright institutions more broadly, questioning their effectiveness and commitment to safeguarding the welfare of musicians. She argued that these agencies must improve their operations, act diligently, and ensure artistes benefit from their work.
Her remarks continue a pattern of outspoken criticism stretching back years. Agyapong has frequently condemned both GHAMRO and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), citing weak leadership, lack of transparency, and the persistent failure to deliver fair returns to musicians.
For decades, she has not only built a celebrated music career but also used her voice as an advocate for reform. Her latest warning reflects the growing frustration among many Ghanaian musicians who feel betrayed by the very institutions meant to protect them.
