Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has opened up about a frightening stunt that nearly left him with a serious neck injury while working on a movie about 15 years ago.
The actor said what was meant to be a routine action scene turned into a dangerous ordeal after he was required to jump from a storey building without the assistance of a professional stunt performer.
Recounting the experience in a video shared on social media, Lilwin said he was playing the role of an armed robber when the production team asked him to perform the risky jump.
According to him, the scene should ideally have been handled by a trained stunt professional. However, because no stunt performer was available, he was left to carry out the stunt himself while three cameras filmed the action from different positions.
Lil Win explained that the production could have used a stunt performer for the dangerous jump and then brought him into the scene for the subsequent shots. Instead, he was asked to take the risk himself.
His first attempt appeared to go according to plan. The actor said he jumped from the building and landed safely, but the presence of three cameras created another problem.
One of the cameras reportedly failed to capture the stunt properly, forcing the production team to ask him to repeat the jump.
The second attempt, however, almost ended in tragedy.
Lilwin said he failed to notice a wire in his path, which caught his leg as he made the jump and threw off his landing. The incident left him struggling to control how he came down, with his neck coming dangerously close to hitting the ground.
He said he was able to avoid a potentially devastating injury by landing awkwardly on his feet. Although he escaped serious harm to his neck, the force of the landing left him with significant pain in his leg.
“I jumped for the first time and landed safely, but there were three cameras, and they told me that one of them had failed to capture the moment, so I had to jump again. The second time I jumped, there was a wire I hadn’t noticed, and I tripped over it. I could have landed on my neck, but because it wasn’t my time to die, I somehow managed to land awkwardly on my feet. The impact hurt badly,” the actor recounted.
Despite the injury, Lil Win said he did not immediately step away from his other commitments. Later that same day, he travelled to Techiman to perform at a scheduled show.
The filmmaker said he was still in considerable pain but chose to honour the engagement rather than cancel at the last minute.
According to him, the event organiser was adamant that he attend because the audience was expecting him and wanted to see him in person, particularly after learning about the injury.
