“Kweku Is Trans, So What?” KKD Speaks Out on Son’s Gender Identity

KKD

Ghanaian broadcaster and Presidential Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region, Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, popularly known as KKD, has spoken candidly about his son Kweku, dismissing public speculation about his personal life and gender identity.

In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM, KKD said his responsibilities as a father are not defined by aspects of his son’s life that he cannot control.

“Kweku is trans, so what? He’s a grown man. It doesn’t bother me. I deal with what I have control over. The things I have no control over I go on my knees and pray about,” KKD stated.

The veteran media personality said parenthood should not be viewed as an attempt to mould children into predetermined versions of who their parents want them to be.

Rather, he believes parents have a duty to provide guidance, support and love while accepting that their children will ultimately make their own choices and develop their own identities.

“Parents are shepherds, not engineers. You can have a son or daughter who’s autistic, masochistic, or stubborn. It is not your fault,” he explained.

KKD also addressed people who have used his son’s situation to ridicule or attack his family.

Instead of responding with anger, he said such reactions reveal a lack of understanding, prompting him to feel sympathy for those making the comments.

“When they say that, I don’t tell them I’m annoyed at their comments, I tell them ‘I pity you,’” KKD further stated.
