What has happened to our beautiful Ghana? – Prince David Osei asks as he condemns politics of insult
Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has strongly condemned the culture of political insults in Ghana.
In a social media post, Osei lamented the decline of Ghana’s rich cultural and democratic values.
After watching President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, the NPP sympathizer expressed his disappointment at the disrespect shown by some Ghanaian youth towards the president.
He described the use of foul language against the president as unacceptable and urged for a return to civility in political discourse.
Reflecting on his past mistakes, Osei admitted he had previously erred but has since learned and is now remorseful.
“What has happened to our beautiful Ghana? The deepening polarization is tearing our democracy apart. It pains me to see our people trapped in the cycle of political insults and intolerance.
In the last administration, many took it upon themselves to smear the ex-president and others who voiced their opinions. Disappointingly, our elders, religious leaders, and public figures remained silent or even encouraged the toxic rhetoric that surfaced on social media.
I hoped this cycle would end, but after watching SONA 2025 live on UTV’s Facebook stream, I was heartbroken. I don’t agree with everything President Mahama and the NDC say or do, but I refuse to wish them ill or foster hate—because Ghana belongs to all of us.” he wrote on Instagram.
Prince David Osei further called out the lack of moderation in social media discussions: “These young people hurling insults at the president—it’s unacceptable. Can’t UTV moderate these live comments? I acknowledge my past missteps and I regret them, but what’s happening now is harmful to our nation and the youth.”
He emphasized the need for tolerance, saying, “I’ve been insulted time and again, and I don’t let it affect me. But what worries me is seeing our young ones resorting to political insults and prejudice. We must learn to tolerate differing opinions! Disagreement is fine, but personal attacks? This level of division could be disastrous one day, whether for NPP or NDC. God bless our homeland Ghana.”
